Blackberry: The communication tool of choice for Organised Crime

Read a pretty cool post on ZDNet.

Apparently, criminal organisations are now using Blackberry mobiles to get past the authorities. PIN messages and email on RIM’s (Research in Motion) Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) has one of the strongest encryptions widely available to the public. It apparently can’t be tracked! While some corporations like the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and the Royal Bank of Canada has banned it, the organised criminals have started using it.

Searching for Value

The economic downturn has changed the way we searched on the Internet. As surfers start to go lean, so has their choices online. Ask.com reported a 50% increase in search terms for words like “value”, “discount”, “savings” and the like.

Comparison Shopping have also boomed. Sites like Shopzilla.com, PriceGrabber.com and the like are getting more traffic than before. Niche sites like Liftopia (ski lift tickets), Medtipster,(RX) and Lensprice.com, (contact lens) have also been popping up around the web. Even the big search engines have gotten involved. Ask.com has just launched AskDeals.com a site that aggregate deals, discounts & coupons across the internet.

So marketeers have to take advantage of these new developments. Make sure your site has pages optimised for the right search terms. Do not ignore the impact of comparison shopping. Provide some form of discount & coupon system and ensure that the agregator sites can index you. Not do you have to provide real value in this new economy. You have to make sure you shout it out!

Who says Email Marketing is dead?

Not too long ago, an article in the Wall Street Journal proclaimed the End of Email as a marketing tool due to the rise of social media. A bold statement indeed. But the market has once again proven the naysayers of Email Marketing wrong. Not only has Email Marketing continue to be the most factor in any online campaign it has evolved in the New Media era.

In fact, there have been a marriage of sorts. Social Media is now used to further the reach of email marketing campaigns. Email marketing campaigns also incorporate Social Media links to connect to their audience like never before. Hotels.com said that they get 25,000 impressions a week from people forwarding their email newsletters on Facebook alone! Email Data Source (a provider of email marketing data) found that in the first nine months of this year, there have been over 73,000 e-mail campaigns with Twitter links. There were 69,000 campaigns with links to Facebook. MySpace had over 12,000 for the nine months that ended Sept. 30, 2009 and LinkedIn had an impressive 8,000 campaigns.

So don’t forget Email Marketing. In fact, make it part of your Social Media campaign because Email Marketing has now gone Social.

Can Windows 7 pull Microsoft out from the last Visaster?

Windows 7 has officially been released today. From all the pre-launch reviews so far, it seems to be all that Microsoft has promised what Vista could not deliver and more. Almost all were positive. But then again, anything is positive after you have had a go on Visaster! Windows 7 is no patch nor upgrade as its codes have been completely rewritten. Apparently it is still a little cumbersome (back-up, installation, etc) compared to the spanking new Snow Leopard, it is does so much better at browsing, searching, navigation, windows management and other areas that Apple has excelled in.

I personally will be eager to test it out and see what it can do. I do hope that it is all it has been heralded by Microsoft to be. If anything, it will up the ante of the OS game and push Apple to make an even better product. Nothing like some good healthy competition!

You could be writing a business plan. Pitching an idea. Interviewing for a job. Selling a product. Selling yourself. Trying to get a date. ANYTHING. Whether it goes unsaid or not, that is the most important question. What is your value proposition? What do you bring to the table? What do you have to offer that is different from everyone else? Why should I buy/invest/believe/hire/date you? If you cannot answer that question.. then you need to get back to the drawing board!

1,000,000,000 Milestone for YouTube

Has anyone noticed the new logo on YouTube?

Yesterday YouTube hit the one billion views a day mark. It was so happy that it actually updated it’s logo. (You can read more about it on YouTube’s blog.)

Am sure the owners, Google is happy about that. Although it has not directly turned a profit yet, it has proven to be the eyeball generator they expected it to be.
